Laoag City has certainly come a long way. From a sleepy town in the 1960s to a bustling city that it is today. Numerous awards—in both national and international categories—have been given in droves, proving that it is now one of the best cities not only in the country, but more so in the world. All these were made possible by Laoag residents who worked hard along with their elected political leaders to achieve such phenomenal success. From big business people, to hardworking employees of both the private and public sectors, to individual professionals who made the city their home in spite of other offers from other places, to the ordinary people who did their share in boosting development in the city and to the security forces which made sure peace and order would be maintained. Laoag City hits gold; celebrates 50th Charter Day anniversary

On its 50 th Charter Day anniversary, city officials and residents came together to celebrate what they—and the people before them—have accomplished in a week-long celebration that culminated on June 19. One of the most recent and major change that propelled the city to progress was also remembered. The passage of the Laoag City Investment Incentive Code of 2007 was primarily the engine that drove the city to progress and development as this opened the city to big time investors to do business here. Under the said code, the city welcomed and encouraged domestic and foreign investments to establish economic and enterprises that would utilize substantial amount of labor, raw materials and natural resources of the city. Adriano Staff reporter Laoag City —Amid the simmering territorial dispute between China and the Philippines, Chinese tourists arrived at the Laoag International Airport om June 13, signaling the return of the Guangzhou-Laoag chartered flights. Carrying more than a hundred passengers, the inaugural flight of the 156-seater China Eastern Airlines touched down at the Laoag airport at about 11:30 am on June 13. As Ilocano dancers and drummers welcomed passengers in a festive grand airport welcome reception, Ma. Milagros Gonzales, provincial director of the Department of Tourism Laoag sub-office said the resumption of chartered flights here will certainly boost the local tourism industry. Over a hundred Chinese tourists arrived at the Laoag International Airport as they are warmly welcomed by Ilocanos led by the Department of Tourism officials along with Ilocos Norte Governor Imee R.

Police seizes illegal drugs, guns, ammo from Badoc exec, siblings’ homes

Adriano Staff reporter Badoc, Ilocos Norte —Police seized over 10 grams of illegal drugs, assorted firearms and live ammos from the house of Badoc Mayor Arlene Torralba and husband, Badoc Vice Mayor Thomas Torralba, including the vice mayor’s two brothers in a separate search warrant operations held June 15. Led by P/Sr. Supt. Albert Ocon, acting provincial director of the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (INPPO), INPPO operatives and the Regional Public Safety Battalion (RBSB) conducted simultaneous search warrant operations in at least four houses owned by the Torralbas located at Brgys. Garreta, Ologoog and Saud, all in this town. At 3:30 am on Monday, June 15, Mr. Ocon said police teams were dispersed at the Camp Valentin S.
