Municipal OFW families’ association in Pangasinan launches new building

The Municipal OFW Families’ Association of Villasis, Pangasinan inaugurated their new building named as Hilario and Luz Maraña Bascos Memorial Building located at Brgy. San Blas in Villasis, Pangasinan on February 24, 2015.

The building was donated by the families of Mr. and Mrs. Conrado Nievera and Mr. and Mrs. Jesus Bascos, migrant workers in the United States of America. Both families were known as active supporters of various organizations in their locality including the OFW sector. The building was named after the late Hilario and Luz Bascos, parents of Mrs. Filipina Nievera and Mr. Jesus Bascos.

The building houses the OFW Family Circle (OFC) in Villasis and offers a convenient area for meetings, gatherings and other activities to be conducted for the benefit of the members of the said association. “This building was put-up for the OFWs in Villasis, Pangasinan and their families and we are not asking for anything in return” Mr. Jesus Bascos said. The building also houses the Senior Citizen Association- San Blas.

During the inauguration, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration –Regional Welfare Office 1 (OWWA-RWO1) was invited as guest in the said event. Ms. Dolly Ann Camacho, Overseas Workers Welfare Officer I (OWWO I) thanked the benefactors as the building is a great help in the implementation of programs and activities of the OFW association. “The Villasis OFW Organization has helped OWWA a lot in terms of program delivery as they are the front liners in the municipality of Villasis. This building then could help them intensify their task of assisting OFWs as they already have a permanent and durable place to conduct their activities”, Ms. Camacho said during the inauguration program.

The Municipal OFW Families Association is Villasis, headed by Helen R. Aquino and assisted by acting Migrant Desk Officer (MDO) Evelyn Basconsillo, is just one of the numerous OFCs in Region 1 who are active partners of OWWA. OWWA recognizes the imperative role of OFCs as they are the agency’s partner in the implementation of programs and services particularly in information dissemination especially in the grassroots level.

OWWA hopes that there will be more benefactors who would signify interest in supporting and helping the OFW sector in the society. (OWWA RWO1)
