LMP prexy proposes transport integration in Ilocos Norte’s tourism economic zones

Laoag City—With a booming tourism industry and development initiatives in the province, the Ilocos Norte government is planning to integrate transportation services to ease travel woes when visiting popular tourism destinations here.

League of Mayors of the Philippines-Ilocos Norte chapter president Sarrat Mayor Edito Alberto Balintona said Ilocos Norte Gov. Ma. Imelda “Imee” R. Marcos has sought the help of local chief executives and concerned transport services operating in the province to provide their inputs and decide on what to do to improve the transport system.

At the Laoag International Airport for example, only tricycle for hire is available to ferry arriving air passengers to their point of destination within the city proper. This prompted the provincial government to offer a free shuttle bus to transport tourists particularly those with big luggage that could not fit in a regular tricycle service.

In an initial dialogue with transport operators, Dingras Mayor Erdio Valenzuela said the group came up with a proposal to loop in one line franchise to open links from Batac City to Banna road, connecting to Dingras, Solsona all the way to Nueva Era and vice versa.

“This is a necessary step to development and progress in areas with no direct route of public utility vehicles,” Mr. Valenzuela said.

In line with the tourism master plan of the province, various local government units particularly in the municipalities of Dingras and Nueva Era towns with on-going promotion of its heritage structures, eco-cultural park and tribal village.

Pagudpud’s tourism transformer passes away

Ricardo Nolasco Jr., owner of Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte passed away on Wednesday evening, July 11, 2018.
