NTA holds livelihood trainings in tobacco-growing provinces

Laoag City—The National Tobacco Administration’s (NTA) Farm Technology and Services Department (FTSD) is holding various livelihood trainings for women and children of tobacco-growing families in the Ilocos region.

For the whole month of August, a series of trainings on bread, cake and pastry making and herbal tea making is being conducted to interested participants at the NTA AgriPinoy Tobacco Farmers Food Processing Plant and Trading Center in Nanguneg East, Narvacan in Ilocos Sur.

The first batch of trainees for bread, cake and pastry making opened on August 5 with three more batches to follow on August 7-8, August 26-27 and August 28-29.

On the other hand, another four batches with at least 30 participants per batch will also undergo training on herbal tea making on August 12, 13, 14 and 15.

In the previous months of June and July, training facilitators from the NTA also conducted trainings on organic fertilizer, off-season vegetable production and meat processing.

Other training courses are also set for the months of September to November. These include: noodle making, therapeutic massage, hair and nail care, ice cream production, dressmaking and novelty items making.

For further inquiries, qualified applicants may just visit the NTA offices in the various tobacco-producing provinces of Ilocos region for registration.

The series of livelihood trainings offered by the NTA forms part of the agency’s attempt to provide solutions to food sufficiency, health and employment opportunities for tobacco farmers and their family members.

Ricardo Nolasco Jr., owner of Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte passed away on Wednesday evening, July 11, 2018.
