Abel Iloco takes center stage in Abellessima fashion show

LAOAG CITY—Ryan Madamba, a designer from San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte showcased his creations in the first ever Abellessima fashion show on May 13 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila.

A part of Mother’s Day celebration, Mr. Madamba’s first fashion show gala called “Abellessima” featured a resort wear collection to honor Ilocano women artisans behind the world-class hand woven cloth known as abel iloco.

At least eight remarkable women wearing Mr. Madamba’s designs using predominantly Abel Iloco materials were be recognized for their outstanding roles as both heads of companies while being mothers to their children.

The dresses were later put on display at the Sofitel Manila, along with women artisans and various products of Ilocos Norte.

Backed by the Ilocos Norte government, Ian Ree Raquel, in his capacity as provincial tourism officer, said the show hopes to promote and widen the use of abel Iloco, an indigenous fabric of the Ilocanos as a viable and fashionable clothing textile and to benefit the dying abel industry, with old weavers going “extinct” due to old age.

Mr. Raquel said that by taking a bold step in showcasing the versatility of this unique Ilocano handicraft, the industry will get a boost that will be appreciated by the younger generation.

Models for abel also included the recently crowned Miss Ilocos Norte 2014, Czarina Adina from Laoag City and her runner up Sheena Dalo from Burgos, Ilocos Norte.

PGIN honors Ilocano heroes of past, present through Heroes Walk

Pagudpud’s tourism transformer passes away

Ricardo Nolasco Jr., owner of Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte passed away on Wednesday evening, July 11, 2018.
