Laoag City’s PESO is best in region

Laoag City’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) is the best in the region.

The award was formalized after Dept. of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional director Grace Y. Ursua personally brought over and handed the certificates to community affairs officer and PESO manager Mylene Pascual and Laoag Mayor Chevylle V. Fariñas during her visit to Laoag recently.

The award was supposed to be given during a regional congress held in Baguio City Feb. 6 but the Laoag City officials were unable to attend.

Ursua also gave the mayor a certificate for her full support to the employment program of DOLE by the city government.

Aside from this, Ursua also announced that Laoag also placed second in the conduct of job fairs and third in the implementation of Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES), otherwise known as the summer job for students.

According to Ursua, the awards were based on criteria set by the DOLE on the number of people employed that were assisted by the PESO, number of job fairs conducted and the number of students who availed of summer jobs.

Ursua also said that the DOLE awarded 20 Nego Karts to beneficiaries as one of their livelihood programs last year.

Pascual expressed her thanks to the DOLE for giving opportunities to the students and the graduates in helping them find employment.

Pascual added that her office is always open to assist graduates and undergraduates in looking for job that best suited their qualifications.

Meanwhile, Ms. Fariñas also thanked Ursua for personally giving the certificates for the city as she assured the DOLE official that the city government will always support DOLE programs that would benefit the people of Laoag.

Relative to this, the mayor announced that the city government thru the PESO is now accepting application for students seeking summer jobs.

In another note, Ursua warned the public not to apply in recruitment agencies that conduct house-to-house operations, especially if they have no proof that the said agency is POEA-licensed to avoid illegal recruitment.

She also advised job-seekers to attend job fairs as the agencies that are featured there are licensed and have job orders or they can also verify with PESO about licensed agencies.

Ursua also advised potential overseas workers to check the visa issued to them since if they are given tourist visas this would be questioned. She stressed that working visas should be given to potential overseas workers. She also said that employment contracts should be processed by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
