Batac set to join next year

The multi-awarded Laoag City is all set to attend this year’s edition of the Aliwan Festival set on April 24-26 in Manila.

The country’s grandest festival features the most outstanding talents from the country’s 16 regions in a grand showcase of cultural tourism highlighting the Filipinos penchant for merrymaking in its colorful and grandiose proportions.

Laoag Mayor Chevylle V. Fariñas confirmed the city’s participation in the dance competition and the Festival Queen search.

Ms. Fariñas asked the public for prayers, guidance and support for the success of the city’s participation especially for the students for them to be motivated in the dance competition.

The mayor said Laoag will showcase its unique traditions, hobbies, and cultures of Ilocanos and part of it will be the Pamulinawen Festival Dance which was shown during the province-wide Tan-ok and Mini Tan-ok Festivals which the city both won.

Based on the criteria, all the competitions will focus on presentations that best incorporate indigenous culture and folkloric traditions.

Participants are urged to use authentic cultural elements and the dance movements must be enhanced by live music and fully showcased with full color of their respective communities.

She said that this time, Laoag will concentrate more on the street dance competition and there will be no entry for the float competition since the city has already won this numerous times and it is now time to give chances to others.

Likewise, the mayor said Laoag will also be joining the Festival Queen search more so that the candidate they picked is presently working in Manila and as such has more time for the practice.

The top five winners for the dance competition will receive P1,000,000; P500,000; P250,000; P150,000 and P100,000 aside from the P50,000.00 each for the five runners-up.

While the top three Festival Queen winners will be receiving P100,000; P50,000 and P10,000.

Winners for minor awards like the Best in Festival Costume, Best in Evening Gown, Best in Swimsuit and Best in Talent will receive P5,000.00 each.

Meanwhile, Batac Mayor Jeffrey Jubal Nalupta promised that Batac will also be joining next year’s Aliwan Festival.

According to him, they had no time for practice because of a lot of activities especially as the city is again preparing for the Farmer’s Festival on May.
