PGIN ‘opens’ Capitol for a fourth year

FOR THE fourth straight year, the provincial government opened the Capitol to the public on February 3 in a program dubbed “Open Capitol”.

The annual event is held simultaneously with the province’s foundation anniversary to let the public familiarize themselves with their own government building as well as to inform them of all the services that they can provide.

A student said the number of visitors this year doubled compared to last year.

“Based on my observation, compared [to] last year, mas marami ang bumisita sa ‘Open Capitol’ ngayon. In fact, parang domoble nga eh. Maybe because of the curiosity of the people who do not usually visit the Capitol," said Kathleen Dela Cruz, MMSU student, who also visited the 'open capitol' last year.

For others, it was curiosity which prodded them to go.

"Ako, personally, gusto ko talaga makita ang loob ng Capitol. I don’t know. Siguro, curious lang ako. Ang dami kasing posters na nakikita ko sa paligid about programs, projects and I want to know how they plan these," Kate Dawnelle Bugaoisan, a DWCL student said.

This is also a chance to observe how the local government works and how they process papers.

According to the official website of the provincial government of Ilocos Norte, this activity is in connection with Ilocos Norte Gov. Ma. Imelda “Imee” R. Marcos' belief in government transparency.

With this year's motif of Spanish, American and Post-War Eras, Capitol employees dressed up in the era’s costumes. Arts and other installation were also displayed about these eras.

PGIN honors Ilocano heroes of past, present through Heroes Walk
